The Tree of Life
A sight like no other
The Tree of Life stands in the lobby of the Hotel Pangea. It is the heart and soul of our hotel and one of our greatest attractions. This monumental work is 13 meters tall, 2 meters in diameter, and depicts 509 living creatures. The composition features 495 animals native to the Carpathian Basin and 14 human figures, which together tell the story of the cycle of life and humanity’s place in nature. With its size and rich detail, the Tree of Life is the largest indoor sculpture in Central and Eastern Europe.
The four sides of the tree represent the seasons. The awakening of spring, the wealth of summer, the wisdom of autumn, and the serenity of winter each form a distinct world, yet they are harmoniously connected. The roots, trunk, and canopy together evoke the physical, emotional, and spiritual realms, as well as the journey of life from birth to death. Walking around the sculpture is like taking part in a journey through time, where each side reveals a new story.

The message of the Tree of Life is simple yet profound. It represents the constancy of nature, the rhythm of life, and the responsibility of humankind. Our guests often say that when they stand before the sculpture, they feel a special sense of peace, because the richness of its details and the power of its symbolism both awe and inspire reflection. With its geological theme, the Tree of Life ties together the past, the present, and the eternal cycle of renewal, making it a true centerpiece of the experience our guests enjoy at Hotel Pangea.
